Super Jumbo Jet Airbus A380 to make its first landing in Africa
Loading...Ethiopia will be the first African sky to host a maiden flight by the worlds largest passenger aircraft, Airbus A380, mid-October this year, a testing flight that will build confidence in the continents aviation industry.
Media reports quoted Ethiopian aviation authorities saying this week that the worlds biggest commercial aircraft will be landing at Ethiopias Bole International Airport in the capital Addis Ababa at a date that is yet to be announced.
Reports quoted aviation authorities making preparations to welcome the aircraft that will fly directly from its manufacturing site in Toulouse, France to Addis Ababa in its testing mission in the African sunny sky.
The A380 testing mission would boost the African sky and put the continents airports in the list of worlds competitive destinations for world-class air travelers.
So far, a series of super jumbo A380 successful test flights have been conducted across the world in cities of Singapore, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Hamburg, Madeline (Colombia) and Nunavut (Canada).
Aviation authorities in Addis Ababa have expressed their confidence that the newly constructed runway at Bole airport can safely carry the weight of the A380 aircraft. Ethiopia is currently serving as the hub of African airlines with the world-class aircraft handling facilities and aviation technology. Its national flag carrier, the Ethiopian Airlines, stands the leading airline in Africa competing with South African Airways (SAA) and Kenya Airways (KA).
It is not clearly established whether the Ethiopian government, which owns the airline (Ethiopian airlines), has plans to order the super jumbo A380 after the testing mission, but there are indications that almost all countries where this modern aircraft made a testing landing, have pressed their orders.
Ethiopian Airlines has ordered 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets whose delivery will start in 2008. The airline is currently operating a fleet of modern aircraft connecting various African cities with Asian, European and American airports. * etn
