Indonesian Minister for Economic Affairs, Sofyan Djalil, announced an economic policy package that is to be implement to boost the Indonesian economy, particularly in a move to improve the country’s current account balance, which is the broadest measurement of foreign exchange flows, including trade, services, interest payments and remittances. One new policy change involves visa-free travel into Indonesia. Starting from April 2015, Indonesia will allow foreigners from an additional 30 countries to enter Indonesia without a visa.
Currently, Indonesia already exempts 15 countries from visa requirements for short visits. These are: Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Chile, Hong Kong, Macau, Morocco, Peru and Ecuador.
The 30 additional countries that will not need to obtain a visa for short visits (starting from April) are China, Japan, South Korea, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Mexico, Russia, England, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Qatar, United Arab Emirates (UEA), Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and South Africa.
Additionally (NOT confirmed), visitors to Indonesia will no longer be required to present arrival and departure cards. The expected date of implementation is 1st of April 2015.
If implemented it will cut down the amount of time required to go through immigration.
Bali Visa
Make sure that you have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date with proof of onward passage.
- Visa applications should be submitted to the Visa Officer after filling out the required form.
- A visa application should be submitted along with the following :
- a valid passport;
- a round trip or through-ticket to country of destination;
- 2 (two) photographs, size 4 x 6 cm.
- proof or written guarantee of possession of sufficient funds for living expenses during entire stay in Indonesia ;
- Payment of the visa fee.
As for visas, please pay attention to the following :
Tourist Visas
There are about 40 countries granted free entry to Indonesia. Please check with the Indonesian Embassy in your country. The free entry valid for 60 (sixty) days and it is in-extendible
Business Visas
You may apply for a business visa, which valid for 28 (twenty-eight) days and extendible for maximum 6 months.
Special Visas
For some countries without diplomatic relationship, you may require special visas. Please contact the closest Indonesian Diplomatic office.
Visa on arrival:
For US$ 25 The government may grant you a visa upon arrival which valid for up to 30 days stay in Indonesia and extendible for another 30 days.

- A Visa of the Republic of Indonesia is issued in the form of a sheet of paper attached to a passport. The type of visa issued shall be based on the visa application.
- A Diplomatic Visa or a Service Visa shall only be issued to the bearer of a Diplomatic Passport or a Service Passport. Applications for Diplomatic or Service Visas should be accompanied by diplomatic letters or official letters.
- Visa applications may be done by proxy, except for Diplomatic or Service Visa applications.
- A visa application should be submitted to an Embassy or Consular Office of the Republic of Indonesia or other official designated by Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
- Visas shall be used within 90 (ninety) days, calculated from the date of issuance. Any foreign national who fails to use a visa within this designated period of time must submit a re-application for a new visa.

from bali to surabaya and vice versa have 2 options.
1. plane
2. public bus
if your are the adventorous kind, take option 2, but be carefull as traveling between islands in indonesia, you will be vunerable with the security checks between ferry ports on crossing. but if you have all your papers in orders, it should be no problem.

I tried to renew passport today but was informed that fastest or earliest I can be issued with a new passport is October 24 which is already beyond period needed to be in Bali.

I’m from Texas USA. I have been going to Bali for many years. Before my last venture in April 2010, I found the visa page from my 2009 visit had worn off due to accidentally washing my passport with my pants.
Upon arriving in Bali, the Immigration officer asked me about it, I replied it had come out in the washing machine, I didn’t think it was a big deal, because in the USA there would be some formality of filling out paper work and they would process you into the country.
It was unfortunate because I had no idea it was a criminal act to remove a visa page even if it was by accident in Indonesia. This is what I was told by the official. After discussing the matter with the boss my spouse and I were deported that night back to Japan and told we could never return to Indonesia.
I’ve been heartbroken ever since. I fell in love with Bali and Indonesia at first sight in 2000. I love the culture, the people and everything about Bali, both Hindi and Muslim. I pray to God you can help me. I’ve tried every source I can think of to resolve the matter with friends living in Bali, both Balinese and ex-pats.
I would have corrected the situation prior to coming to Bali, but I was working at Samsung industry on Geoje Island S. Korea when I washed my passport. My itinerary took me directly from Korea to Bali by way of Tokyo. My tickets were non-refundable, so I had no time to correct the Problem.
One friend whose father works for Immigration said it is forgotten to get a new passport but I need someone more official to confirm. Is it true? Can I return to Indonesia if I get a new passport? May I be granted forgiveness? It was never my intention to deceive anyone, why would I do such a thing when I’ve been welcome to your beloved country for so many years? I have so many good friends who are Indonesian, and there is no place like Indonesia! Please contact me via email to let me know what I can do if anything.

For those of you reading this, please don’t let my mishap stop you from going to Bali or Indonesia. It was my fault. I assumed wrong about their culture. Indonesia is a wonderful place! Just obey the rules and have fun!

I have a multiple entry business visa, paid $600 for it valid for 12 months. I have to do a visa run to singapore every 2 months. Went to batam by ferry only took 45minutes from singapore. Batam immigration said I needed a visa on arrival. Got one, paid $25. Came back to bali. They said my business visa was now void because I got a visa on arrival at batam and I would need to pay another $600 and get a new one. On top of that I have to purchase a visa on arrival to enter bali. These guys a just so corrupt. Anything to screw you over and take more of your money. Be careful
Don’t blame the authorities here, it’s simply your own mistake.
If you have a 1 year multiple business visa of course you do not need any other kind of visa.

Nigerian citizens can not get a visa on arrival or any other visa just like that, they will need to have a local sponsor.

Me and my fiancee will be getting married in January and immediately after marriage we will be travelling to Bali for our honeymoon. My tickets are done, hotel bookings are done too and I am aware that Bali has Visa on arrival for Indians.
One question kicks my mind, do I have to provide a proof that that we are married for Visa on Arrival, as me and my fiancee will have different surnames on air tickets as well has passport.As in Dubai I am aware that we have to submit a NOC. Is this the same in Bali?
The second question I have is aboout the local restaurents in Bali? do they accept Indonesian currency or USD as most of the 4-5 star hotels ask for?

I remembered I needed Visa-On-Arrival when I visited Indonesia few years ago. Per above Visa information, does it mean I am exempted for visa and don’t even need to get the Visa-On-Arrival?
