    Dear Sirs,

I recently went on holiday to Bali, unfortunately this holiday was marred by a few incidences. The first happend in Ubud market where we were hounded by a shoe trader so we gave a price to try and keep him at bay, however he was extremely unpleasant and then proceeded to push me agressively. I would suggest that “tradesman” like these are regulated by some sort of enforcers which protect tourists from these types of people.

The second incident happened when we were in Seminyak and on 66 Beach – we did not want a taxi as we wanted to walk along the streets however the taxi driver kept on persisting that we should go with him, we rejected and he then proceeded to swear at us – an extremely horrible experience.

The last was when we departing from the airpot – I cannot understand why everyone is taxed 150,000 Rupiah to get home!? I have been to many places all over the world and this is the first I have ever encountered – a very sour experince, enough to make me never to come back as I feel this tax is robbing everyone that wants to use the airport.

    Regards
    Tony

Tony, Bali is a paradise, but it’s an ordinary country with people too… there are good people (most of), there are unpleasant and bad people (like everywhere)… You was unlucky to meet rare bad part of Balinese population. Take it easy. We hope that this accident didn’t spoil your general opinion about friendly population of Bali.

As about Taxi – that was cartel agreement between taxi drivers. We’ve read such comments from all tourist countries in the world… Sad, but true. The only one thing to suggest – is to call a taxi and ask operator about cost prior to your trip. Wait 5 minutes for car and enjoy your lower fixed price
